Instability trailing the strong tropical wave will linger across St. Vincent and the Grenadines today (Friday), forecasters said in a 72-hour outlook issued Thursday evening.

“After that, patches of moisture will move across the island chain with a slight to moderate chance of a few shower activity on Saturday and Sunday as an upper level trough positions itself to the east of the island chain. Warm conditions are expected over the weekend,” the SVG Met Services said.

On Friday, moisture will be lingering across the country.

“Showers are forecast to be occasional and somewhat isolated. Model guidance still indicates that isolated thunderstorms are likely.”

On Saturday, moisture is forecast to decrease, however an upper level trough will be to the east of Barbados, and some isolated moderate showers are possible. 

A few isolated showers are possible on Sunday morning.  

Winds are forecast to blow from the east-southeast to east at 15 to 25 kph (9-15.5 mph) with higher gusts becoming mostly east northeasterly on the weekend.

Seas are forecast to be moderate in open waters, with swells peaking at 1.5m (4.9 ft) on the western coasts and 2m (6.6 ft) on the eastern coasts

Small craft operators and sea bathers are asked to exercise caution for occasional gusty winds and above normal sea swells

“As Friday progresses into the weekend, expect an improvement on the seas, with swells peaking at 1m (3.3 ft) on the western coasts and 1.5m on the eastern coasts. In addition, there will be no significant haze intrusion within this forecast period,” forecaster said
